ISSUES
Taxes & Municipal Investments Greg fought attempts to raise taxes in 2008 with the Principle
Shopping District (PSD) tax. As a Councilman, Greg will continue to fight against future tax increases. He will
ensure that residents’ money is invested wisely and cautiously in municipal projects when economic
conditions warrant such investments.
Police & Fire A safe and secure community is a priority. We cannot expect to prosper without safe
streets, homes, and businesses. As a member of the Ferndale Police & Fire Board, Greg has overseen the
approvals to hire additional police and fire members. For the first time in 8 years, both police and fire
departments are fully staffed.
City Services Clean well-lit streets, well maintained parks and recreational facilities, programs for
youth and seniors, assistance with construction planning and execution, and manicured homes and
businesses are vital to the success of any city. Greg will fight to maintain the level of services residents
currently receive to ensure Ferndale remains a welcoming community.
Interactions Residents and business owners today live much busier lives. Many citizens do not have
the opportunity to interact with our elected officials during scheduled council meetings. If elected, Greg will
be available to all residents to talk about issues that impact their life.
Downtown Ferndale’s downtown has become active and vibrant over the past several years in part due
to the Downtown Development Authority. Greg will continue to support the growth and development of the
downtown and the current and future projects of the DDA.
Industry One important aspect of a thriving community is the availability of jobs. Ferndale’s industrial
areas have been ignored for many years. As a Councilman, Greg will pursue green environmentally-friendly
companies seeking to start or expand their businesses.
Environment Ferndale is already one of the most environmentally friendly cities in the state. As a
member of the Sierra Club, Greg knows that Ferndale can go even further. More bicycle racks, more tree-
plantings, and encouraging more businesses to participate in recycling their waste. We should make a
conscious effort to create a cleaner world for our children.
Council Meetings Residents need more opportunities to interact with their elected officials. Regular
council meetings provide the opportunity for residents to share thoughts and opinions with members of
Council. As a Councilman, Greg will fight to reduce the number of last minute “Special” Council Meetings
which restrict residents’ ability to participate in their government.
Communications Technology of the 21st century plays an important role in keeping our lives organized
and informed with current events. Greg will encourage the use of these tools to ensure that city
departments are connected to one another as well as keeping our citizens informed. Our city departments
should be able to instantly communicate and share information, and keep our residents and business
owners up to date instantaneously.
